Intellectual {Dis}Abilities

This section of the Inclusive Virginia Adult Education website provides information and resources for adult education practitioners on serving adult learners with intellectual {dis}abilities.

Intellectual {dis}ability means significantly subaverage general intellectual functioning, existing concurrently with deficits in adaptive behavior and manifested during the developmental period, that adversely affects a learner’s educational performance (IDEA Sec. 300.8).

Individuals with intellectual {dis}abilities are best served by organizations that provide life skills training, job training, or other care services. Please see the resources below to connect with an appropriate organization.
